About Flightremedy

We help air passengers claim the compensation they are legally owed.

Why we exist

Every year, millions of air passengers experience flight disruptions that entitle them to financial compensation under EU or UK law. Most of them never receive a single euro or pound.

Some do not know the right exists. Others find out, try to claim directly from the airline, and give up when they receive a rejection letter full of legal language. A few escalate, but the process is time-consuming and unfamiliar, and most passengers eventually walk away.

EU Regulation EC 261/2004 has been in force since 2005, and the UK operates its own equivalent, UK261, introduced after Brexit. Neither is a scheme or a promotion, they are legislation that requires airlines to pay fixed cash compensation when they disrupt your travel.

Under EU261, two groups of passengers are covered: anyone whose flight departed from a European airport, regardless of which airline operated it, and anyone whose flight arrived into a European airport on a European-based carrier, even if it departed from South Africa.

UK261 works the same way for the UK: anyone whose flight departed from a UK airport on any airline, or whose flight arrived into a UK airport on a UK or European-based carrier, is covered. If you flew from Johannesburg or Cape Town on an airline like KLM, Lufthansa, or British Airways and your flight was significantly delayed or cancelled, you very likely have a legal right to claim under one of these two regulations.

Airlines know this, and they know that the overwhelming majority of passengers, particularly those travelling from outside Europe or the UK, never claim. The process requires knowledge of the regulation, persistence through the airline's internal procedures, and often a willingness to escalate when the first response is a rejection. Most passengers simply accept the disruption and move on. That is exactly what airlines are counting on.

Flightremedy was founded to change that. Our mission is simple: to make it easy for every passenger to claim the compensation they are legally entitled to, without having to understand the law, navigate airline bureaucracy, or risk their own money doing it.

Meet the founder

“I saw too many people walk away from money they were legally owed, simply because they did not know about the regulation or did not know where to start. That is what we fix.”

Flightremedy was founded by Rayner van Wyk, a qualified Chartered Accountant with a deep passion for the travel industry. Rayner has spent the majority of his career working in the Online Travel Agency sector, most notably for one of the largest OTAs in the world, where he gained firsthand insight into how airlines and travel businesses operate at scale.

Through his years in the industry, Rayner observed a persistent and frustrating problem: passengers who had been delayed, stranded, or turned away had a clear legal right to compensation, but no practical way to pursue it.

Rayner founded Flightremedy with a single goal: to level the playing field. With his background in financial accountability and his understanding of how travel businesses work, he built a service designed to pursue claims rigorously, charge fairly, and communicate honestly.
